2nd Practice- F1 Replay – Belgian GP – 17Jul26
Just like the first practice session of the 2026 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, the final practice offered teams another great chance to get themselves ready for one of the hardest weekends of the season. With the track conditions getting better and better at the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, all teams focused on qualifying pace, long-run consistency and tire performance.
FP2 played out dramatically different than the opening practice, revealing a much better indicator of each teams’ true pace. With drivers in the cool conditions running qualifying simulations on the softer compound and then moving onto much longer race trim runs, engineers learned a whole lot more of the true pace ahead of Sunday’s race.
Why Is FP2 More Important Than the Opening Session?
The second practice seems to be where the beginning of the race weekend strategy starts to take shape, whereas the first practice was more about getting to know the circuit and trying out some experimental set-ups.
The working order the track offers a bit more grip by FP 2, so that the drivers are able to push flat out and generate lap times that are more representative of how fast the car actually is. Feedback from FP1 data is used to optimize set up and to analyse car behavior in short and long runs.

Several drivers gained a lot of time over the first one as a result of track evolution which gave them more grip.

Achieving the perfect aerodynamic equilibrium.
